LENTEN SCHEDULE, 2022

Dear Parish Families,

The season Lent is a preparation of the celebration of Easter.   The Liturgy prepares the catechumens for the celebration of the paschal mystery by the several stages of Christian initiation: it also prepares the faithful who recall their baptism and do penance in preparation for Easter.  (General Norms for the Liturgical Year, #27)

By the threefold discipline of fasting, almsgiving and prayer, the church keeps Lent from Ash Wednesday until the evening of Holy Thursday.  All of the faithful and the catechumens should undertake serious practice of these three traditions.  Failure to observe any penitential days at all or a substantial number of such days must be considered serious.

* Day of Abstinence – Abstinence from meat is to be  observed by all Catholics 14 years old and older on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent

** Day of Fast – Fasting is to be observed on Ash         Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not 60.  Those who are bound by this may take only one full meal.  Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one’s needs, but eating solid food between meals is not permitted

The special Paschal fast and abstinence is also encouraged for Holy Saturday.

I wish all of you a prayerful and enriching season of Lent

 God Bless!

 Fr. Greg Tokarski

The Holy Mass is a prayer itself, even the highest prayer that exists. It is the Sacrifice, dedicated by our Redeemer at the Cross, and repeated every day at the Altar. If you wish to hear Mass as it should be heard, you must follow with eye, heart and mouth all that happens at the Altar. Further, you must pray with the Priest the holy words said by him in the Name of Christ and which Christ says by him. You have to associate your heart with the holy feelings which are contained in these words and in this manner you ought to follow all that happens at the Altar. When acting in this way you have prayed Holy Mass.
